It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or taking a stand... or turning around to go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.
Featuring an exquisitely crafted score that mixes gospel, jazz and contemporary musical theatre ballads, Brown weaves stories and history together, illuminating the timelessness of self-discovery. Each piece in this modern song cycle is a glimpse into the life of a different character and an instance when they realize something new about themselves, seemingly find a whole new world to explore. Audiences will be transported from the deck of a sailing ship bound for a new land to the ledge of a New York penthouse, among many other fantastical locations. With its timeless theme and compelling music, the show is an exploration of faith, love, community, and how ordinary people survive extraordinary circumstances.
With recent approval from Broward County to stage outdoor productions for limited capacity audiences, and pending approval from Actors’ Equity Association, we would like to welcome you back to the theater with our first ever open-air performance under the stars in the Broward Center’s Peck Courtyard. The show will be 90 minutes without intermission. Seats will be sold in pods of 2.
Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
